FAQ

How does unlocking work?

Open an app you've gated and a shield appears with two choices — 5 min (watch 1 ad) or 15 min (watch 3 ads). Tap one, tap the notification that appears, watch the ad(s), and the app unlocks for that long. It re-locks automatically when the time is up.

Why three ads for 15 minutes?

A longer unlock asks for a little more intention. We can't control how long an individual ad runs, so a longer unlock simply asks you to watch a few more.

I tapped a shield button but nothing happened.

The unlock opens the app via a notification, so notifications must be allowed. Go to Settings → Notifications → OpenAd and turn them on, then try again.

Why does the app need Screen Time permission?

OpenAd uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) to gate and unlock the apps you choose. That permission is what makes the app work. Your Screen Time data stays on your device — see our Privacy Policy.

Do you see which apps I gate or how I use them?

No. That information is handled entirely on your device and is never sent to us or to advertisers.

How do I change which apps are gated?

Open OpenAd and edit your gated-apps selection from the main screen.
